Digital technologies are woven deep into the fabric our everyday existence. Play and entertainment serve a crucial role in determining how such technologies evolve, having served both as catalyst for the development of novel devices and interaction paradigms, as well as proposing novel uses for technology.
The 9th International Conference on Intelligent Technologies for Interactive Entertainment (INTETAIN 2017) celebrates the future of Interactive Entertainment by inviting researchers to submit contributions around developments and insights in art, design, science, and engineering regarding novel entertainment-focused devices, paradigms, reconceptualisations, and reconfigurations of entertainment experiences.
INTETAIN is a small gathering of curious minds, focused on supporting a community of practice. Instead of crowds of people who may miss the chance to connect in the face of overly tight timetabling, we prefer to have a select group of people conversing about a select group of papers.
Topics of interest for INTETAIN include, but are not limited to:
- Entertainment AI: procedural content generation, agents, and machine learning
- Game and character design: tools, theories, and case studies
- Gamification and serious games: principles and applications
- Human factors: emotion, immersion, skill, and style
- Non-human agencies: media, music, robot, and animal
- Intelligent environments: ambient, virtual, and mixed reality
- Interactive media: TV, social media, art, and storytelling
- Invasion of entertainment: locative media, mobile guides, and companions
- Novel interfaces and sensors: affective, multimodal, and bodily interactions
Submission Categories
The conference solicits original, high-quality submissions in the following categories:
Full Papers
Full papers should describe original, complete and unpublished work that seeks to advance our current knowledge in any of the topics listed above. Papers must provide sufficient details and support for their claims and conclusions. They must cite relevant published research, highlight novel aspects of the submission, and identify its most significant contributions. The maximum length for a full paper is 18 pages (plus up to 4 pages of references) in the Springer LNICST format. In addition to presenting their paper authors of accepted papers may also present a demo of their work in the interactive poster session.
Short Papers
Short papers should describe work in progress results for work that seeks to advance our current knowledge in any of the topics listed above. Short papers must provide sufficient details about the nature of the work, cite relevant published research, highlight novel aspects of the inquiry and illustrate the current status of the work and its future direction. The maximum length for a short paper is 8 pages (plus up to 2 pages of references) in the Springer LNICST format. In addition to presenting their paper authors of accepted papers may also present a demo of their work in the interactive poster session.
Interactive Posters
Interactive posters provide a venue for eliciting useful feedback and fostering discussion on early-stage work that seeks to advance our current knowledge in any of the topics listed above. Interactive posters should outline the nature of the work and its novelty and the plan of action to be pursued by the authors. The maximum length for an Interactive poster is 4 pages (plus up to 1 page of references) in the Springer LNICST format. Accepted submissions may also present a demo of a prototype during the session.
Submissions must contain original unpublished work and may not be under consideration for any other conference or journal. All submissions will be subjected to blind review by a panel of experts and will be evaluated on the basis of originality, significance, quality of research, quality of writing, and contribution to conference program diversity. Accepted submissions will be included in the conference proceedings which will be published as part of the Springer Lecture Notes of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering Series. If accepted at least one author must attend the conference in order to present the paper.
